January 19 - Get your hair did

Earlier this month, I wrote a post about how I had been practicing cutting hair on a doll so that I could eventually cut my son's hair and make it not look like he'd been attacked by a lawnmower.

On Friday night, I put my hair cutting skills to the test.  Elliot was my unwilling test subject.

We set him up in the archway between our living room and dining room.  I popped in a Paw Patrol video, gave him a lollipop, and set to work.  Here's what I was working with:

And here's what I came up with:

First of all, I need to talk about how amazing Elliot was throughout this whole experience.  Elizabeth and I have brought him in to a few barbershops to get his hair cut, and usually it results in a lot of tears and lollipops covered in hair (every person that cuts his hair gives him a lollipop...they all end up covered in his hair).

But this time, he was great.  He was a little uncomfortable at first, and he squirmed like he normally does when he's getting his hair cut.  After a while, however, he settled in and actually started enjoying it.  I used a clipper set that I use on my own hair, which was different than the scissors only experience he was used to at the barber shop.  He thought that they tickled, but his nervousness about the whole thing went away very quickly.

I'm going to need a lot more practice on this to get to the level of my parents.  Looking at him now, there are a few spots that I need to clean up.  With that said, overall, it's not half bad (and I'd like to say that it was more than half good).  I got compliments on it when we went to the art museum on Saturday (more on that in an upcoming post). And he doesn't look like the lawnmower attacked him. I'm going to call this one a win.

A handsome dude with a new 'do.
